How To Adjust Adjustable Ice Skates

Total Vénéon 2009 Trophee

15 years ago, Lionel and Stéphane ROUX FINE, founders and team members Caskaboulons France Eskimo Topo Malafosse organized the first trophy on the rapids of the same name on the Durance upstream of Briançon (Hautes-Alpes ). It was at that time to create an event bringing together all fanatics of the legendary topolino on one of the finest rapids in the Southern Alps. The event has quickly surpassed the middle of the Upper River in France to become a European gathering at which many members of the pro-team have distinguished themselves with the boats of the mark. Historically, Eskimo supported this rally holds high the spirit of the River. Today, the trophy is held every two years in September in the valley Vénéon, one of the finest glacial rivers of France. This year (12 and 13 September), over 100 paddlers from all over Europe was to rendezvous and among them Steven Van den Heuvel, Kate Murphy and Anne Cailhol or France in the end the team completely. An important time to take stock of the actions of the team in France and abroad, decide on future trips but also ascertained the number of kayakers convinced now important qualities of the New Salto.

For the record, and as evidenced by the photos, the various potions drunk at the party Saturday night finished transforming the entire team in real Caskaboulons. We still do not know if they have now regained all their intellectual faculties but as regards the spirit River, be sure that nothing is lost ...

Top Vénéon Trophée 2009

15 Years ago, Lionel FINE and Stéphane ROUX, founders of the Caskaboulons and Team Eskimo France-members, organised the first Topo Malafosse Trophée on the Durance Malafosse-rapid near Briancon in the South Alps . The goal was to create a unique event for Topolino-addicts on one of the most beautiful white-water rapids that could be found in the region. Soon the event attracted the attention of the international scene and became a famous European meeting for Topolino-paddlers. From the beginning the meeting was supported by Eskimo and his Pro-Team-paddlers.

Since a couple of years the event is organised bi-annual on the glacier-fed Veneon-river. Last September, more then 100 paddlers came to the unspoiled and remote Veneon-valley to paddle and party. Among them the four Team Eskimo France-members; Kate Murphy (preparing her India-trip), Anne Cailhol (getting ready for her Chili trip in january and february ), Lionel Fine and Stéphane Roux, and Team Eskimo Belgium-paddler Steven Van den heuvel. A perfect setting to discuss future paddling-trips and promoting the New-Salto.

At the party, paddlers do need parties after paddling, the team-members were transformed into real Caskaboulons . The pictures speak for themselves. Once again the event was big fun: true spirit and real nice paddling through one of the most wild and scenic gorge that can be found in France . New Salto rules!

Norway 2009: Horndola - waterfall behind the corner

During our summer-trip through Norway, on another rainy day, we paddled the Horndola, located in the north of the Sogn og Fjordane-region. The water-level was medium-low and the classic run was a little mellow. But... the river had a little secret, a surprise, just after the take-out bridge (road 60: Hornindal-Hellesylt).

During our run down the river, close to the take-out, our driver Dirk was waiting for us to make some pictures. With him was a reporter from a locale newspaper: Fjordingen. The reporter, Brynjar Solheim, was alerted by the owner of the apartment where we were staying (remember the bad weather). Brynjar told us about the waterfall behind the corner after the take-out-bridge and was wondering is we were planning to paddle it, which would give him a good story. We knew that some Belgian friends had paddled the waterfall the year before.

So, after scouting the waterfall-combination...Brynjar had his story. And we had a great souvenir. Front-page and inside the newspaper two more pages. Thanks Brynjar!

The Caskaboulons on the road: Spirit of Dourbie

  • For a geographer, Dourbie is River in southern France flowing in the departments of Gard and the Aveyron, a tributary of Tarn left bank and a sub-tributary of the Garonne . A blue line like so many others on a map. For kayakers High River, Dourbie is much more than that. The sections of the gorge, including the throat Valgarnide "Bridge Prunaret above the village of Dourbies and" large throat "overall in Class 4.5, 5 + with a few impassable, upstream of St. Jean de Bruel are part of the mythic journey that marked the history of the discipline in France but also in Europe. The technical requirements for upstream pathways Dourbie not rank today that river among the most extreme in Europe. Nevertheless, some rapids that make up this granite aqualand ( bath-shower, the bazaar bubble , Fault Caucalan ...) remain to be determined in good company and knowing the spirit and spectacular beauty of the place. The Dourbie is more than a spot of high river. It is a healing for all lovers of pristine sites and navigation in the waters pure and translucent. We knew the places to be enjoyed many times in topolino. We're back this weekend from May 1 in good companies. With Pierre Peschier first, One of the spiritual son of the discoverers of this jewel, a member of the famous Log Cevennes and was one of the first to cross the famous gulf of wheels on the Upper Tarn. In the company also equipped Caskaboulons Salto whose sailing qualities allowed them to approach even more magic to this river, the aesthetics of its rapids and the pleasure of sailing with no other concern than picking the right passes, share a time of intense pleasure. A small trip Cévenol ended on the famous sections of the Upper Tarn revealed by a bright sun and flow rates. A weekend of pure "spirit of kayaking " which allowed everyone to check paddling in his kayak is a great Salto who managed to forget to make accessible to kayakers simply the spirit of the River.

  • For a geographer, Dourbie flow in the South of France, affluent of the Tarn in left strand and a sub-affluent of the Garonne . A blue line as so many others on a map. For white water paddlers, Dourbie is much more than that. The gorges sections (In particular Valgarnide from “Prunaret bridge “ up to Dourbie village and the " big gorge " in WW 4, 5 and 5+) , situated up to Saint Jean de Bruel make parts of these mythical sections that maked the history of the discipline in France but also in Europe. The technical requirements of Dourbie uppers sections do not classify anymore today this river among the most extreme in Europe . Nevertheless, some of rapids that compose this granitic “aqualand” remain to appreciate it in good company and while knowing how to respect the spirit and the spectacular beauty of this place. Dourbie is more than a spot of white water, it is a root place for all still virgin sites lovers. We knew the places to have appreciated them so much time in Topolino. We came back in May in good companies, with Pierre Peschier first of all, one of the spiritual sons of the discoverers of it jewels, member of the famous “Cevennes Connection” witch was one of the first paddler to run the famous “gouffre des meules” on the Tarn. In Caskaboulons company also equipped with Salto. Qualities of navigation allowed them to approach this magic river, the aestheticism of its rapids and the pleasure to navigate without other trouble than to choose the good way, to share on moment of intense pleasure. A Cevennes trip ended on the famous high sections of the Tarn revealed by sun and adequate water levels A weekend of pure "spirit of kayaking» that allowed us to verify by paddling in Salto that a great kayak is the one which is able to make simple the river for paddlers.

Cm 2 Days After Period

Printemps en Corse II

Lured by the great snow conditions on the French Mediterranean island teeming, this spring more than ever paddler in Corsica.

experienced a renaissance in the new version of the Salto: Salto evolution.

Although the kayak was only shortly before the season start on the market were already many new flip over the island represented.

Each had a somersault while Evolution was totally thrilled. Once again is succeeded Eskimo, Ma ß bars of a white water kayak to move up. By X-ribbing in the top vessel is clearly achieved greater stability and can again be eliminated the annoying supporting wedges in the boat.

Thank you for such a great creek boat, which also provides on rivers such as Restonica or supreme Vecchio that the driver comes back whole again.

A Forbidden Time Shotacon

Spring in Corsica, Printemps en Corse

Here come the month of April and with it the snow melts ...

is the ideal season for exploring the rivers and Corsicans already many kayakers from all over Europe are waiting for you. They are Germans, Belgians, Austrians, Czechs, Norwegians or French and have a common passion: the rivers of clear water and tumultuous beauty of the island.

Those who come paddling in Corsica seek both wild landscapes made of scrub and pine forests Corsican, surprising encounters along the roads (pigs and cows release ) and a change of scenery on an island very mountainous ... They are also looking for intense sailing away from civilization, clear rivers and fresh waters that flow from the highest mountains to the Mediterranean.

But they seek to navigate the rivers demanding or lazy rivers to go, all kayakers find their happiness on this island. For if the river Corsicans are known for being beautiful and difficult, we often forget that there are also pathways of class II and III of beauty.

Finally and most importantly, what e kayakers around the world seek and find in Corsica are unforgettable moments with friends, family or club and shared moments in the evening around the fire.

But let's talk about these famous rivers ...

If their reputation is well established is that these streams have character (like the Corsican people.) Most of the time, these rivers are in their upper part: steep, maneuverability, collected in the narrow gorges, and have numerous waterfalls and slides. To name a few shots here my heart:

- The very famous and great Rizzanese drop: Wild River and threatened.

- The stream Codi: narrow paths with many tobo GGAN.

- The Travo: whose classical part is a marvel (especially the triple drop)

- The Vecchio: many if phone giant into chaos.

- The Taravo: for its hot water baths and red throats.

Azverazge Time To Chaznge Sid

paddles on the "other "side of the earth

The variety of rivers in New Zealand is impressive, Is there still any conceivable type of water: shallow water to white water and the steep gully to the mighty river. These multiples lt distributed only two islands, is magnificent.

perfect weather and light on the Hurunui River WW

No road e? Then the shuttle walk is done here at the river Styx. When support system have to be creative.

"Sea Kayak" tour in the Abel Tasman National Park

To come to the really exciting rivers, one must resort to the helicopter and hire a pilot. It is a great shuttle, since the flow can be scouted from above and only one car is needed. But be careful: what looks from above like WW II, is "mostly" a bit heavier (class IV-V) ;-).

fun the Perth river

The Carnage Gorge on the river again Kokatahi is mobile.

A landslide at the end of Carnage Gorge has the otherwise insurmountable return in the water drowned and the 1-2hours long and arduous portages made unnecessary (hopefully it will long remain so). Even without a portage around the Gorge took us 9.5 hours to get to the cars.

Arahura poses at the river, "cesspit"

Each time, the Salto a faithful companion. The low weight of the Eskimo kayak was so many Mitpaddler green with envy.

After NZ before NZ! Hopefully it's soon back to winter paradise. However, before planned so far in the future, we go to Corsica. We expect dream water levels.
