Nothing but carrots

So, now I am no longer in Lake Louise, but located about 35km south-east of Edmonton. After I found a farm, the day before yesterday I "receives", I just had the glorious idea of the Greyhound bus at 03:25 at night to clock . Take So I decided to just stay awake until then to be able to sleep well in the bus - after about 8 ½-hour drive lay ahead of me. A fatal mistake as it turned out. After about 2 hours we arrived in Calgary, where I have to change first and was allowed to spend for about another hour at the bus station had. I thought to myself, that I can then sleep then yes certainly still good, so were a little less than 5 hours to Leduc. As nearly all the passengers on the bus, sat only 3 guests and what kind of people were missing, of course? A mother with two small children. The best I found also that this took place right next to me. Was a great coach, I can tell you!

clock at 11:30 am I arrived exhausted then relatively in Leduc. There, the owner of the farm already waiting for me. Since the farm is just outside, I'm the next 30 minutes then back down nice car. A really small farm, only about 4 acres, was waiting for me at the end of the trip. Although the farm is so small, is here yet so a lot of query: celery, potatoes, turkey, ducks - and their eggs and carrots, of course ... .. I have no idea how many pounds I carrots in the last 2 days had at hand, but there were incredibly many. After yesterday, I brought my stuff just in a small wooden hut, the work was going well already. From 12 to about clock 17:30 clock it's my job, the long green stalks of carrot was cut off with scissors. I had been asleep by then, of course, not a minute. Against 18:30 clock there was still curry for dinner and then I just fell asleep by 20 clock in my house.

way, it is really a small wooden hut with two beds in it. I attended me the hut with a 22-year-old Indian, which carries the last name Singh. Danny, he is a real way the Indians lived for 15 years in Punjab and to the 2% Sikh living in India's part. Oh, and only incidentally, one of my roommate in Lake Louise was also Indian and they also bore the surname Singh. I think now that not a last name, but have left more of an Indian name for the country.

This morning it was said then to get up 7:30 in the morning to take care of back at the good old carrots. But today it was much more varied: 3 of 7 hours of my work, I have this time even the carrots harvested from the field. As you can imagine, I spent the remaining 4 hours trying to work it back with scissors.

addition to the family and the Indians living here, a British scientist, the really great on it. She is doing such a thing as a doctorate in agricultural sciences and is therefore largely to research here. Also is a two to three times by other German from Edmonton who helps at work. His wife is currently a visiting professor at the university in Edmonton. Also a really nice person with whom one can talk and laugh a lot.

On the whole it is quite ok here. I work every day for 6-7 hours and get free accommodation and breakfast, lunch and dinner. It still feels a bit like as if a sort of Eastern European migrant workers. The internet only works in the main house and is a TV neither. Since I have unfortunately no books here, are probably the very boring evenings in the coming days or weeks. In principle, I could then also 12 hours per Day working - there is nothing great anyway else to do.

on Saturday in Edmonton is a kind of weekly market in which we will also sell vegetables and duck eggs. Once the truck is loaded, I have the rest of the day and can then probably 6 hours exploring Edmonton. I want to be sure the time once the largest mall in North America to see, and probably buy 1-2 cheap books.

s pretty interesting time to work on such a farm and his own food to draw from the earth. But I am 100% sure that I do not want to make something of my life would be, but it's definitely an experience worth it. How long will I stay I do not know yet but as my job in Lake Louise on 1.11, it will definitely not start more than 3 weeks.

I will be back to upload pictures, among other things, my "cabin" and the 500 turkeys.

Greetings from Neubauer
